Abstract (EN)
The first census in the Ottoman Empire was conducted in 1831. Population registers, which emerged as a result of the census, shed light on the demographic and socio-economic structure of both the period of the census and the region to which it belongs. In the census registers, where we find information about settlements, names and nicknames of individuals, the head of the family, the degree of closeness of family members and their ages; we also come across physical characteristics such as height, beard and moustache. In addition, through the population books, we can also find extremely important information about the structure, which is the purpose of the census, such as the number of the male population, military service status, and taxpayers. Population registers numbered 2101 and 2105 contain data related to the years H.1256/M.1840-1841 and H.1261/M.1845 belonging to Ankara Province, Bozok Sanjak, Sorgun District. By identifying and evaluating the mentioned population registers, it is aimed both to reveal the population structure of the region and to serve as a source for future population register studies.
