The Evaluation of the students textbooks and workbooks and teachers guide books used in social studies lessons of the 4 th and 5 th grades accordance with the views of the teachers, students and the parents

In this study it is aimed to evaluate in general the social studies textbooks, workbooks and the teacher?s guide books of the 4th and 5th grades in the primary schools according to the views of the teachers, students and the parents, It is also aimed to find the errors and the missing aspects of the books and in that way to be helpful in preparing more effective and functional textbooks, workbooks and teacher?s guide books. The study environment of the survey involves the teachers of 4th and 5th grades who had been teaching in Keçiören and Haymana districts of Ankara in the 2005-2006 season and the students of the 4th and 5th grades in there schools and the students of the parents. At the and of the survey it was found that there had been some missing aspects in the social studies textbooks, workbooks and teacher?s guide books in terms of: 1) Content, 2) Physical and visual features, 3) Language and explanation, 4) Measurement and evaluation. In addition, the differences between the views of the students, teachers and the parents of students can be seen in accordance with the environment in which they live. So this shows that the books were not prepared taking the environmental and individual differences into consideration.Considering there results it was suggested that the social studies textbook, the workbook and teacher?s guide book be revised. And it was also suggested that the representatives of the students and the parents should participate the research commision of the books. Lastly it was suggested that the books should be rewritten considering the environmental and the individual differences.
