Abstract (EN)

The aim of this study is to compare the application of teaching activities of 5E Model based on constructivist approach with traditional teaching methods for teaching of cylinder, empty circle, filled circle topics in primary education 7th grade mathematics lessons. The research has been performed throughout 2007 spring semester at a primary school of Keçiören in Ankara. 52 students attended to this application in two different sections of 7th grade class of the school. Experiment and control groups were choosen randomly from these sections. The courses was performed using teaching activities of traditional teaching methods for control group and course activities planned by 5E teaching model for experiment group througout six weeks. Pre-test and post-test control groups were used in the research (Karasar,1999). Cylinder, empty circle, filled circle chapters achievement tests were performed as pre-test and post-test. Data obtained at the end of this study is evaluated using SPSS packet program. It was examined that whether there is a meaningful difference between pre-test and post-test average points using t-test for data analysis. Analysis results show that the students bred by teaching activities of 5E model based on constructivist approach are more successful than by traditional teaching methods.Key Words: Constructivist Learning Theory, 5E Model, Mathematics Teaching.
