The evaluation of 6th grade social studies course books according to teachers' opinions

The course books are the most important material in education life. The Social studies course book which aim to have common values to students in Social life, should be arranged well for education. The ministry of education has committee prepare course books. In 2018 the Social studies education program have changed and Social studies course books have renew. After this change, the schools start to use new Social studies course book prepared by MEB publications for 6th grade Social studies course. This research aims to evaluate the Social studies course books for 6th grade in 2018-2019 opinions of academic year, together with teachers and aims to contribute that these books are functional. In this search, descriptive survey model is used which are of the quantitative research method. In this search, the teachers who use these course books in their lessons have duty. The sample representing the universe of the study was defermined among the teachers who entered the 6th grade Social studies course in Tokat and was selected rondomly among the teachers in these schools. This search has been carried out with 153 social studies teachers working in secondary schools in Tokat. In this research, one of the data collection techniques the questionnaire was used. The data obtained from the study were analyzed by using SPSS for Windows 22.0 program. For the interpretation of the analyzes, frequency, percentage, skewness, kurtosis and standard deviation, t test and ANOVA test were used in this research. The result of the research shows that according to the teachers opinions, the 6th grade Social studies course book has a very high level of technical design and regulation and the compatibility of the expression and language with the criteria in general, beside the compliance of the measurement and evaluation with the criteria is at on intermediate level. When examining the relationship between the variables given to the technical design and editing, content, language and expression sections of the Social studies course book and the variables given, a significant difference in the mean of scores given in the assessment and evaluation section, there is a significant difference in the average of scores given in the content section due to the status of receiving vocational seniority and seminar or in service training. There was no meaningful difference between age groups, educational status and periodical publicationfollow-up variables and teachers' evaluation of the 6th grade Social studies book. Some deficiencies have been identified in the technical design, regulation, content, language, measurement and evaluation sections of the book.
