Abstract (EN)
The study was carried out to determine the cognitive learning levels of values which will be gained explicitly (helpfulness, responsibility, scientific, diligence, respect to rights and freedom, awareness of physical world and historical heritage) in the 6th grade Social Studies Curriculum by the students. The 6th grade students studying in the city centre of Kırşehir form the population of the research. The sampling of the study was composed of 600 students in the 6th grade during 2012-2013 education year. The research is a descriptive study using survey model. Achievement test prepared by the researcher was used in the study and the test was implemented with the 600 students in the 6th grade. Frequency, percentages, arithmetic mean, standard deviation and t-test, One-Way ANOVA, Mann-Whitney U Test and Kruskal-Wallis H Test were used for data analysis. The findings of the research revealed that %51.17 of the 6th grade student knowledge levels towards the values which will be gained explicitly were high, %37.17 of them were medium and %11.67 of them were low. In addition, it was determined that while the knowledge levels towards the values changed depending on the gender, socioeconomic level of the school, students' previous year social studies course grades in the school report, mother's educational level, father's educational level, father's profession, mother's profession, family's monthly income and the house lived in by the owner or not, knowledge levels did not change depending on father's having a permanent job, student's having a room of his own, number of the siblings, birth order of the siblings and the number of family members. Based on the results obtained from the study, it was suggested that the awareness of social studies experts, school administration and teachers should be raised so that the 6th grade students in the 6th grade Social Studies curriculum could understand the values which are going to be gained explicitly better at cognitive levels and the values in the text books should be matched with the subjects in the curriculum.
