Investigation of problem solving skills and attitudes of 7th grade students through Web 2.0 supported mathematics teaching

In this study, it was aimed to examine seventh grade students' mathematical problem solving skills and attitudes towards mathematical problem solving by using web 2.0 supported mathematics teaching. The Explanatory sequential design which is one of the mixed method designs was used in the study. The randomly selected study group of a public school in Mersin province consists of 23 study and 23 control groups determined based on the convenience sampling method.The study was carried out with ten students selected from study group in order to obtain the qualitative data of the study Problem solving skills measurement tool, mathematics problem solving attitude scale and semi-structured interview form were used as data collection tools. All data were analyzed with t-test and eta squared values were calculated by using SPSS 26.0 package program. Content analysis was applied to the data obtained from the semi-structured interview form. According to the results of the study, it was determined that the problem solving skills and attitudes towards problem solving of the study group students who received web 2.0 supported mathematics education increased significantly more than the control group students who were taught with general learning models organized according to the approaches and principles applied in the current curriculum. After application, the students evaluated the development of their own problem solving skills and the problem solving activities with web 2.0 tools mostly positively . The results which supporting the quantitative findings were obtained as a result of the analysis of the interviews with the students and the analysis of the answers given to the measurement tool.
