Factors related to screen use in children aged 9 – 11;stress, life satisfaction, automatic thoughts

In this study, the relationship between the time spent in front of the screen by children between the ages of 9 and 11 and their perceived stress, life satisfaction and automatic thoughts were examined. In the study, Personal Information Form, Screen Usage Determination Chart, Automatic Thoughts Scale for Children's Life Satisfaction Scale and Perceived Stress Scale for Children were applied to 852 children (498 girls and 354 boys) between the ages of 9-11. Correlation and regression analyzes and comparison tests were performed. In the study, it was seen that the majority of the children had a computer and more than half of them had a smart phone and tablet. It has been observed that the vast majority of children have social media accounts. As the level of social media use increases, the perceived stress and automatic thoughts score increases and the life satisfaction score decreases during both school and vacation periods. As the level of messaging increases, perceived stress and automatic thoughts increase and life satisfaction decreases. The results were observed in watching videos on Youtube as well as in the use of social media and messaging. A difference was observed between the levels of watching TV on school day and life satisfaction and automatic thoughts, and between watching TV on vacation days and perceived stress and automatic thoughts. With perceived stress; There was a difference between watching TV series on the screen, using social media, messaging, watching videos on Youtube, playing single and online games on school days, playing single games on vacation days, reading newspapers on the screen on vacation days. With life satisfaction; There was a difference between watching TV series on the screen, reading newspapers and magazines, using social media, messaging, watching videos on Youtube, watching TV on school days, single and online games on school days, single and online games on vacation days. With automatic thoughts; There was also a difference between the levels of watching TV, using social media, messaging, watching videos on Youtube and watching TV series on the screen on both school days and holidays, single and online games on school days, single games on vacation days, and doing homework on vacation days.
