Abstract (EN)

The most important sources of Ottoman history of law are undoubtedly written documents kept in courts. These documents contain important information about their place and period. Court records englighten history substantially thanks to information they comprise about social structure, administrative form and legal process of settlements they contain with documents such as contract, promissory notes, endowment, alimony, power of attorney, will, inheritance case, partition of inheritance records, bridewealth and marriage.The topic of our paper is Gaziantep court records number 96. There are many legal and administrative documents in this book(?). The reason for choosing the court records in our research is to contribute to the history of Turkish Culture by making a trial method through these documents even if it is partially.The number of classified books belonging to Gaziantep has been determined as 174. There are also those who claim that this number has reached 126. The first certificate of registry belonging to Gaziantep belongs to Kanuni Sultan Süleyman period and they were written on H.C 938 / G.C.1531-1532 and registered in book 1. The latest registration documents are H.C 1327 / M. It belongs to the date of 1909-1910 and the book of 160. The book 96 include records of Shari'a courts received on the dates of H.1153 and 1154 / G.C.1808-1809. There are a total of 5... documents including .... administrative and .... legal documents in the book 96 consisting of 5... pages. A certain order has not been followed when sorting out the book. While on one side the book includes legal documents such as inheritance, alimony, appointment of guardianship, divorce, receivable and payables, on the other side there are such as nişân-ı şerîf(....... sharif), royal decree and administrative documents coming form the headquarters as commanded. By studying this book we aimed to bring this book into the light of the administrative, social, cultural and economic situation of Gaziantep in H. 1153-ile 1154 /G.C years to some extent. Besides, we mentioned the number of the document, the subject, the administrative feature, the hijri date and a short summary at the beginning of each document when transcribing the documents in order that they are easy for the readers.
