Abbas b. Abdulmuttalib (D. 32/653) and his place in the science ofhadith

In this study, the life of Abbas ibn Abdülmuttalib (r.a.) and his place in the science of hadith were investigated and tried to be revealed. There are different narrations in the sources about the history of Hazrat Abbas' conversion to Islam. However, all the sources that deal with his life mention Abbas' close relations with the Prophet (s.a.v.). Although it does not come to the fore with the narration of hadith, there are more than 150 hadith narrations with their repetitions in the sources. In this sense, it is worth investigating why he is not at the forefront of the narration of hadith. In addition, it is certain that the determination of the hadiths narrated by him and the revealing of his place in the science of hadith in this context will contribute to understanding both him and the hadiths he narrates. Our study, which deals with Abbas b. Abdülmuttalib and his place in the science of hadith, consists of an introduction and three chapters. In the introductory section, the subject, importance, purpose, method of the research and the sources used are emphasized. In the first part, the life and personality of Hazrat Abbas is discussed. In this context, his lineage, his family, his position in society, his role in the Aqaba oaths, the narrations about his time to become a Muslim, the wars he participated in, his life during the period of the four caliphs after the death of the Prophet (saas), his schema and his personality were discussed. In the second part, the subject of Hazrat Abbas' hadith, tolerance and manners is discussed. In this context, information was given from the Messenger of Allah about the tolerance of hadith and other hadith teachers and his students narrated from him. The situations of the students in terms of jarh and amendment were discussed one by one and the opinions of the munekkits about them were included. In the third part, the hadiths narrated by Hazrat Abbas were identified and categorized from the main hadith sources, and the narrations were evaluated in terms of the scripture and text.
