Interaction of documentary and fiction in Abbas Kiarostami cinema

Cinema, since it first came to existance, have told people different stories; provided sections from different places, people and lives. In doing so, used different genres that were separated within cinema itself. The most common ones of these different genres are documentary and fiction. The famous Iranian director Abbas Kiarostami started his film career with short films and later made documentaries and feature length fiction films. One of the important points one should encounter when looking at the cinema of Kiarostami is the intertwining of these two genres. Many of Kiarostami's films are fictional films which resemble documentary genre. This situation is so complicated that sometimes it also gives the impression that fictitious scenes are added into a documentary film. As a minimalist director, Kiarostami is one of the most successful directors who uses reality and very simple stories and shows that these simple stories can also be fascinating too. He is an auteur who masterfully uses creative elements, amateur actors and real places in his films that he made with a realistic approach.
