Abstract (EN)
The Abbasid period holds great significance in the formation of Islamic institutions. During this era, the development of Islamic culture and civilization accelerated, and the foundations of many institutions were laid. Among the state institutions, the most authoritative position was that of the vizier, and accordingly, the role of the envoy, known as "elçilik," was established. The need to establish political and social relations with a wide range of neighboring states led to the increasing importance of diplomacy. Although the duties and powers of envoys varied over time, they played a significant role within the political structure of the state. In our study, we have examined the nature of diplomacy during the early period of the Abbasids and analyzed the activities and effectiveness of this institution in state administration, primarily relying on historical sources of Islamic history. We have investigated the tasks and activities of envoys in various domestic and foreign matters of the Abbasid Caliphate, which had a significant impact on Islamic history for five centuries, and explored whether diplomacy transformed into an institutionalized body within the state's political structure during this period. Keywords: Abbasid State, first period caliphs, embassy, diplomacy
