Sufi thought in some Persian treats of Abdurrahman-i Jamî (d. 898/1492) (analysis-text)

This study includes the identification and analysis of the Sufi thought in the treatises Risale-i Tehliliyye, Şerh-i Hadis-i Abu Rezin El-Ukayli, Suhanan-i Hâce-i Parsâ, and Risale-i Şerâit-i Zikr of Abdurrahman Jami (d. 898/1492), a Naqshbandi Sufi known as Molla Jami in the history of Anatolian Sufism. Although small in volume, the treatises in question, which contain a rich and literary Sufi content, show that Abdurrahman Jami is not only a Sufi who is affiliated with the school of unity of being, but also an important representative of the Naqshbandiyya order in the literature. The first of these treatises, Risale-i Tehlîliyye, stands out as a work focused on the word-i tawhid. Approaching the subject through the letters that make up the word-i tawhid, Jamî examines the letters from a linguistic perspective and establishes the subject within the framework of explanations that can be included under the umbrella of the science of hurûf. Jamî's findings on the subject, although not making direct references, show that he follows the letters section of Fütûhat-ı Mekkiyye. The second work of the study is Jami's treatise titled Şerh-i Hadis-i Abu Razin Al-Ukayli, which he wrote on the famous hadith of "ama" in the hadith literature. The hadith, the content of which is the Prophet's answer to Abu Razin's question "Where was the universe before Allah created it?" "It was in a state of ama with no air above or below it," has attracted special attention from Sufis. Indeed, the hadith in question is the origin and source of inspiration for the concept of "ama," a Sufi term that expresses the levels of unity and oneness in the unity of existence ontology. At this point, Jami's treatise titled Sharh-i Hadis-i Abu Razin Al-Ukayli seeks an answer to the question of what level the concept of "ama" in the hadith refers to and deepens his analysis on the subject in this direction. The third work that the study examines is the Risale-i Suhanan-i Hâce-i Pârsâ treatise by Abdurrahman-ı Câmî. The treatise is titled as the sayings of Muhammed Parsâ (d. 822/1420), one of the sheikhs of the Naqshbandiyya order, and its content deals with the unity of existence. Although it is seen that Câmî quotes from Sufis such as Ghazali and Rumi in the treatise, it is noteworthy that he is extremely familiar with the terminology of Ibn Arabi. Indeed, the density of terms such as "existence", "relative existence", "adam", "eternity", "ahadiyyetü'l-cem", "hakikatu'l-existence", "a'yân-ı sabite", "new people", "nefesü'r-rahmanî", "ıskatu'l-izafat", taayyünât-ı zâtî", "taayyünât-ı ef'âl", "ittihad" etc., which are among the key concepts of the idea of unity of existence in the treatise, proves the strong existence of this influence. The last work that constitutes our study is Jami's treatise titled Risale-i Şerâit-i Zikr. In Risale-i Şerâit-i Zikr, Abdurrahman-ı Jami lists and explains the elements of dhikr, muraqaba and rabita, which have an important place in the journey and süluk of the Naqshbandi order. Then, he explains the concepts of vukūf-ı kalbî, vukūf-ı zamanî, vukūf-ı adeî, halvet der-encümen, which are the basic principles of Naqshbandiyya etiquette and etiquette, and enriches his thoughts on the subject with Sufi similes and metaphors. The treatise also provides some clues that give an idea about the Naqshbandiyya-Nurbahşiyye relations of that period.
