An Experimental study on the effects of ABS

AN EXPERIMENTAL STUDY ON THE EFFECTS OF ABS (ANTT-LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM) (M.Sc. Thesis) Muzaffer Hakan YARDIM GAZI UNIVERSITY INSTITUTE OF SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY August 1997 ABSTRACT One of the most important development to improve vehicle braking performance is Antilock Braking System (ABS).It is known that locked wheels of a vehicle during braking have undesirable effects. Especially in case of panic braking in wet and slippery roads, the vehicle would be out of control. ABS has been used for safety stopping in passenger cars as well as commercial vehicles. Researches showed that the differences between the vehicles with and witout ABS in related to the stopping distance and stability. In this experimental study, the effects of anti blockage system worked as hydraulic regulator have been investigated. The results showed thad the system would be effective for especially slippery roads with panic braking but it reduces brake performance on dry road coditions.
