The achievement situations of field skills in 2005 social studies curriculum according to the subjective perception of the students

In this study; the achievement situations of the field skill according to the subjective perception of the students were determined by the 8th grade students at 4th, 5th, 6thand 7thgrades of in 2005 Social Studies Curriculum. Study group of the research consisted of 158 (52.5%) female and 143 (47.5%) male students, 301 students in total, studying in eight secondary schools located in Kırşehir city center that were specified by random sampling method. The research was patterned according to screening model, which is a quantitative research method. Pursuant to this model, data were obtained by a 5 likert Field Skill Gaining Scale with 60 articles, which was developed by the researcher. Afterpre-application of the prepared scale, Cronbach's Alpha value of the 60 articles was calculatedas 0,97. The scale comprised 6 demographic variables and 6 sub-divisions involving field skills. Data of the research were obtained by percent, frequency, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson correlation, Levene's, Welch ve Brown – Forsythe and Post-Hoc Scheffe analyses. In the study, acquiring levels of fields kils by students according to sub-divisions, and differentiation of these levels upon the gender of the students, education levels of mother and father, passing mark of Social Studies course at the end of 7thgrade, skill-aimed courseactivities of students, and attend a training course were determined, as well as there lation ship between skill sub-divisions. It was concluded that, students always can achieve cases regarding spaceperception, historical empathy, social attendance, change and continuity perception, time and chronology perception, observation skills, in accordance with the irsubjective perception. While female students are beter than male students in space perception skill, in terms of "distinguishing objects in the environment and expressing them with respect to colour and shape"; male students can read basic schedu les better than female students. In addition, significant variations have been found according to the variables of attending to training course, education level of father and grade-point average. Significant differences have been seen in the ability of historical empathy, social attendance, perception of time and chronology, perception of change and persistence, and observation compared to year end average. In social attendance skill, it was concluded that male students take part in sports activities more often than female students, students doing activities regarding field skills are more active in entertainment activities whereas students not doing such activities are more respectful for civil rights and democrasy.
