Özet (EN)

Purpose: All the conscious actions by the individual knowing that shall result in death can be define as suicide. Intoxication is defined as being affected of the individual?s vital functions as a result of exposure to a chemical material. Suicide rate is an increasing public health problem in around the societies. The psychiatric, environmental, social, economical and familial factors that contributing in the development of suicidality must be considered. Our goal is to search the underlying reasons of suicide thought and suicide motion, and to prevent the probable future suicide attempts by providing required medical and psychotherapy through defining the psychiatric table that indicating the status of the patients before and during suicide.Materials and Method: After having the faculty ethical committee approval, 122 patients over 18, of being 38 men (% 31,1) and 84 women (% 68,9), who consciously attempted suicide and applied to emergency services of our university hospital between 2009 and 2011, and accepted to be included in our study were exercised in this forward looking study. For the research, the questions in questionnaire that we formed oriented to analyze the socio-demographic specifications of the patients were posed. The statistical data analyses of the patients were performed through SPSS 15.0 package program.Findings: It was observed that 67 of the patients (54,9%) who attempted suicide were in 18-24 age group, 61(50%) were single and 80 (% 65,6) were unemployed. when we consider the common characteristics of the patients, they were single, female, younger age group and unemployed. the depression was the most established diagnose with 55 (% 45,1) patients of total consulted with psychiatry therapy after completing their intoxication treatment.Conclusions: Suicide motion, a method that is applied as a result of the social, economical, familial and psychiatric problems, with which individual faces, is a way of expressing oneself or a way of alternative solution according to the individual. Through the support given to individuals having suicide tendency, a decrease in suicide risk among the mentioned people can be actualized. For this purpose, the socio-demographic features of patients attempted suicide must be well known and must be evaluated by psychiatry.Key Words: Emergency Service, Intoxication, Suicide, Psychiatry
