Abstract (EN)
Objective:Among the patients who went through open heart surgery at our clinic preoperative evaluation with TEG was done and recorded. Our goal was to find out effects of TEG results, on the amount of blood products used at the postoperative period in patients with drainage.Patients and Method:Control group was formed from 82 patients picked from hospital records who went through elective CABG surgery between years 2008-2009 in our clinic. Blood transfusion was performed in this group according to conventional laboratory techniques. Study group was formed from 82 patients who went through elective CABG surgery between years 2010-2011 in our clinic. Blood transfusion was performed in the study group in reference to TEG results. Two groups were compared according to amount of blood products used.Findings:There was statistically significant decrease in the amount of intraoperative and postoperative packed red blood cells and whole blood, postoperative whole blood used and decreased drainage in TEG algorithm based study group then the conventional algorithm based control group. Results:We conclude that because of the decreased amount of blood products used, TEG based blood transfusion algorithm must be applied in patients who will be going through open heart surgery.
