Determining the water surface profiles in open channels at different hydraulic conditions

Abstract (EN)

In this study, water surface profiles in sudden change sections in open channel flows has been researched. For this purpose, change of the water surface along the upstream and downstream of different types floor sills has been observed and measured. The channel that the experiments are performed has a rectangular cross section. At steady flow conditions, experiments have been performed for the 12 floor sills which has varius geometrical shape and dimensions. Friction coefficient, floor slope, width of the channel and flow rate are constant. Water surface profiles have been obtained for each sudden change sections that has formed by different type floor sills. Experiments have been repeated 3 times for each type of sills and by this way 36 experiments have been performed. Thus, the effects of floor sill shape and dimensions on water surface profiles have been researched.It is hope that, the experimentally obtained data, that is given in the appendices of the study will be useful for reseachers and could confidentally be used for theorical studies as well as for modeling.
