Abstract (EN)

The novel genre that appeared in the west in the seventeenth century with Cervantes by Don Kişot and became a part of Turkish Literature with Tanzimat Reform Era in the nineteenth century, goes through the changes and transformation and got out of its original. The main reason of the situation is undoubtly the creator of the novel, human. The portrait of human in seventeenth century when the novel genre appeared is very different from the human human portrait of the next periods. The author forms his/her work under the thumb of aesthetical values shaped by the current political, social, scientific and intellectual developments. The dominant understanding of the era is the main determinant for not only the work's subject but also such factors like time, place and event. Also Adalet Ağaoğlu, one of the important authors of the Contemporary Turkish Literature looked out of modernism window whose effects were felt at the beginning of the twentieth century to the historical break-ups and individuals of Turkish society that she lives with. Adalet Ağaoğlu, whose literature life began with theatre, resigned the institution of TRT in 1970 and entered into the novel world with her first work 'Ölmeye Yatmak' , which she wrote to analyze the Republic and published in 1973. Thus, the author mentioned about Turkey's different historrical periods in her all novels and stories from starting with her first novel 'Ölmeye Yatmak'. The author touched on woman identity, individual, society, politic and family in these various periods. Thus, the studies about her are mostly focused on these subjects. Beside these, the other reason why Adalet Ağaoğlu went towards to the novel is her sensitivity to the concept of time. The author wanted to write the novel of the shortest time when past, now and future exist at the same time; in other words the novel of 'the moment'. Thus, she tried different time editing techniques in each of her works. However, the studies about the concept of time that the author attached such importance and brought stylistic innovations remained limited to the studied articles on her particular novels. Therefore, in this study, at first step the perception of time in the author's novels and stories and how the time was built was analyzed. Adalet Ağaoğlu processed 'the time' not only as fiction's stylistic point but also handled from the historical perspecitive in each of her works. In her works, the author focused on not only the individual that makes terms with just himself or herself but also the individual that makes terms with the society, too. The author , who starts off with the break-ups of the individual who became a stranger even himself or herself at the beginning of the twenty first century, doesn't neglect to include the break-ups effecting the individual in her works. Thus, in this study it is not aimed to log the historical periods in the works, but it is focused on what are the break-ups and how these moments shaped the individual. In this study, additionally the factor of education in the novels and stories of Adalet Ağaoğlu was analyzed. Of course the education factor in the works of Adalet Ağaoğlu became a subject in previous studies. However, in these studies only one aspect was concentrated and that is woman. But the novels and stories of Adalet Ağaoğlu are valuable not because of the perspective of woman's education but because of the perspective of the characters or individuals who live in that system rather than from the formal point of view for the past educational periods in Turkey. Thus, at the final part of the study it is analyzed what are the educational politics in the historical periods in the novels and stories of Adalet Ağaoğlu and how these politics were carried out and the effects of these politics on individuals.
