Herd management practices in Adana intensive fattening enterprises

This study was planned in two stages, including a questionnaire study of herd management practices and the private fattening enterprises accounting records. In the questionnaires, questions were asked to the breeders about demographic structure, business information, general situation of the livestock and profitability evaluations. A total of 75 enterprises were surveyed and records of the one of them were examined as an example. According to the survey results, there is a lack of technical knowledge and herd follow-up in the vast majority of enterprises. It is understood that the breeders follow the business with experience and see profitability as the difference between income and expenditure. It is understood that feed mill is in the first place in terms of technical information providing. Also, it is understood that the breeders are mostly influenced by each other and they often consult close farms to obtain information. According to the data of the fattening, 16,954,813.17 TL was obtained from the sale of meat as a result of 303 days of fattening period. Together with the fertilizer sales, the total figure reached 17,105,813.17 TL. Total profit was TL 1,509,493,17. The total amount spent is 15,596,320 TL and this figure does not include the depreciation of the enterprise. The profit made remained at 9.6%. Considering that the bank interest rates for the same period are in the 18-20% band, even though the business has made a profit, how profitable the food is when the risks taken are taken into account, is a subject open to discussion. In addition, businesses that regulate rations, making weigh and group, achieve better performance. The fattening period is prolonged in enterprises with low ADWG. The capacity utilization rate in the monitored enterprise was determined as 22.38, causing the costs to be adversely affected.
