Abstract (EN)
The amount of energy required for human activities and industrial activities is increasing with each passing day, and the existing resources are being depleted. This has made it inevitable to expand the use of renewable energy resources, which are more sustainable and environmentally friendly resources when compared to existing energy resources. Considering that our country has a great potential in terms of solar energy, increasing solar energy investments will contribute to the correct management of the current resource shortage and reduce external dependence on energy. In the present study, when the potential of solar energy is considered, the purpose is to choose a suitable location for solar power plants to benefit from solar energy, which is a good energy source alternative, on the basis of the city of Adana. A site selection study was performed to determine the most suitable alternative areas for solar power plants by using the Geographical Information Systems and Analytical Hierarchy Process. A series of analyzes were performed by considering the relevant legislation, the data in the literature and expert opinions, and a two-step approach was applied by taking into account the solar power plant efficiency and environmental effects to choose the most appropriate location. It was foreseen that the method employed will be used as a reference for different renewable energy sources because it is focused on decision-making on the basis of both efficiency and environmental effects. It was also considered that the study will encourage the use of solar energy and the right resource management with the right location selection by revealing the current potential of the city on the basis of solar energy.
