Adana province Seyhan district secondary school teachers looks on occupational health and safety practices

In order to create a safe and healthy school environment, it is necessary to identify the dangers that arise in schools, analyze the risks that may arise from these dangers, take precautions against these dangers, and prepare emergency plans for the risks that may occur. In addition, occupational health and safety practices and knowledge levels are essential, according to the results of systematic and scientific studies, to prevent situations that threaten human health for different reasons. There are a total of 15 districts in Adana, and Seyhan District is the most densely populated district of Adana province with a population of 795,012. Central districts constitute approximately 80% of the total population of Adana Province. Seyhan District also constitutes approximately 45% of the central districts. For this reason, this study was carried out in secondary schools in Adana Province's Seyhan District. According to the results of the survey, most of the teachers did not do any research on occupational health and safety, did not participate in any exercises, were insufficient in first aid and fire extinguisher use, had a lack of vital information about their students, emergency plans, and risk assessments, professional It has been determined that there are deficiencies in their awareness of their legal rights when faced with an illness or work accident, in the OHS training given in educational institutions, and that they think that accidents and therefore injuries may occur due to the lack of materials such as occupational health and safety warnings and warning signs in their schools. In addition, it has been observed that programs such as competitions and panels are not organized in most of the schools to spread the OHS culture; there is no near-miss box, gas detector, lightning rod, safety net in the stairwell, railings on the windows, cover, or child protection locks on the sockets. It is planned that this study will serve to raise awareness about occupational health and safety among school administrators and teachers.
