Abstract (EN)
Kilim, a traditional Turkish art rugs has been a part of Turks' daily life from the birth to the death. Turkish people used rugs as a ground spread in Western and Central Asia. Because of the common usage of the rugs, sacks, seams and similar texture studies the Kilim Development Cooperative was founded in the Sarıdüz neighborhood of the Karatepe village in the Kadirli District of Osmaniye province , in 1972. Before the fondation of this Cooparative plain weaving was weaved widely as rugs, sacks, floor spread and decoration stuff. In 1950s in Karatepe Yusuflu Village, kilim that weaved with dyers'madder bacame widespread. Village people dyed the strings by the help of a man called Dyer Mevlüt came from Kadirli district. After the 1970s , Halet Çambel came to Karatepe Village and then village people came more educated. Halet Çambel told the women in the village how they could prepare the dyers' madder by themselves and they produced it together. The quality of the rugs in this region is being tried to carry until today. The wool used as the raw material has been turned into string and it has been use by colouring with natural dyes. The motifs used in the kilim symbolized the tribes, the families, the nobad families around aroun this region. From a tourist view Kilim is in demand in Osmaniye and being produced aimed at purpose, are known as the cause of Kilim's coming today. In Karatepe Village Cooperative, Kilim's main characteristics come until today without any corruption with the same quality is a herritage. That's to say , since the beginnig of weaved according to necessity, when it is compared with the old samples, it has seen less motif and colour varieties used. These rugs has been weaved with the technique of plain waeving. Key Words: Kilim, Karatepe Rugs, Aslantaş Kilim Cooperative, Halet Çambel, Karatepe Kilim Cooperative.
