Urban green system planning in accordance with the pre-urbanisation landscape potential in north-west urban development area of Adana

The aim of this study; in accordance with the landscape planning principles, the macroform of the open/green area system suitable for the landscape potential of the area before the urbanisation phase, the zoning decisions and problems that destroy the open/green area potential in the urban development process were examined and suggestions have been developed for the creation of an open/green area system plan in line with the contemporary landscape planning principles. However, this study does not propose a new zoning plan. According to the current zoning plan, it is aimed to determine the macro form of the "open green area system plan" that can be produced for the research area if the open green area potential of the landscape is preserved by taking the state of 1974 as a reference. The research area is located in the North-West development area of Adana Province; It covers the area between Seyhan Dam Lake in the north, Adana-Mersin Highway in the south, Yasar Kemal Boulevard in the east and Seyhan River in the west. As a result, while the majority of the area consisted of fertile agricultural lands until the 1970s, plan decisions were taken in 1985 to open the areas determined as regional parks for construction due to the intense construction pressure. With the opening of the area for construction, it was under the pressure of intense construction very quickly and the natural structure was mostly destroyed. Compared to 1974, it was determined that approximately 5 times of the areas in the stream protection band were under the built area. In the next period, while making close, medium and long-term plan decisions, the destruction of the area should be prevented by making decisions in line with contemporary landscape planning principles.
