Adıyaman Halil Bilgiç Evi restoration and protection project

Establishment of Adıyaman city, whose old name was Hısnımansur, goes back to last periods of the Umayyad Dynasty. Area that Adıyaman is in is an antique settlement area whose beginning goes up to prehistorian ages. When the archeological studies are examined, in this settlement area, life existence has been come accross from the beginning of Paleolitik Era. However, in the city centre, as many castles and monuments, traditional houses haven't survived, too. It is very important to examine Halil Bilgiç House, which is one of the rare examples of only a few traditional Adıyaman houses, scientifically for the first time. This study consist of the suggestion of restoration subject of Halil Bilgiç House, which has the civilian architecture features of Traditional Adıyaman Houses and is at the dead end of 19th May Street in Kap Mosque neighborhood, Adıyaman. This building has plan schema, traditional building elements, ornamented ceilings and original front layout. The building survey which scanned by laser, has been documented by drawing and photographing and its material analysis has been done. The corruptions occurred in the meantime have been detected and damage analysis has been created. Other buildings which resemble each other in means of plan and architectural features have been studied and with the help of comparative studies restitution analysis has been developed in two different terms. In the restoration project, necessary interventions for the protection of the building and using it nowadays have been tried to be figured out; a new function appropriate for its historical and architectural qualities has been developed. In extent of this thesis study, protection methods for the building have been determined and this building has been suggested to be organized as a Cultural House which describes Adıyaman's city and social life. The building has been suggested to be registrated to Şanlıurfa Cultural Estates (Properties) Protection Committee as soon as possible. In this context; in order to provide sustainable protection, this study is aimed to guide to maintain architectural legacy with a new function that will serve to social purpose and maintain its existence.
