Hazaras-Taliban relationship in Afghanistan

The Hazaras are one of the main inhabitants of Afghanistan and form the country's third-largest ethnic group. Unlike other ethnic groups, the majority of Hazaras belong to the Shiite sect. Perhaps this sectarian difference negatively affected the Taliban-Hazara relationship. The Taliban saw the Hazaras as a Shiite and sometimes Rafizi group and did not have a good relationship with this group because they were not ethnically Pashtuns. The Taliban, both during their rule from 1996-to 2001, during their 20 years away from power, and in their second term in 2021; could not establish regular relations with the Hazaras. In this study, which we tried to summarize in a few sentences, the historical origins of the Hazaras and the Taliban, their political, economic, social, cultural, and educational status, and the relationship between these two groups were tried to be revealed.
