Abstract (EN)
In this thesis, the production of saffron plant, like other agricultural plants, is closely related to the country's economy and the living standards of the people. In addition, the saffron plant stands out as the best alternative to poppy. Countries such as Iran, India, Afghanistan, Spain, Italy, Turkey, Morocco and France are the leading countries in the production and trade of the saffron plant in the world. About 475 tons of saffron is produced in the world every year, and more than 90% of the production belongs to Iran. Saffron has been produced in Afghanistan for many years and contributes to employment, foreign trade and economy. Most of the saffron production is concentrated in Herat Province. In addition to Herat, farmers producing saffron in Balkh (Mazar-i-sharif) and Faryab provinces constitute the population of the study. This study was carried out in order to determine the problems faced by the producers by analyzing the input use, production cost, profitability and efficiency in saffron production, evaluating the success of the farmers in saffron production in terms of various criteria. As a result of the study, it was determined that the producers producing saffron used 418,57 kg/da onion, 244,47 hours/da labor, 2,57 tons/da animal manure, 290,84 kg/da chemical fertilizer, 1254,28 gr/da pesticide. Production costs have been calculated as 65667,65Af (6566.76TL) dekar, varying in 18537,92 Af(1853.79TL)dekar and constant 47129,73 Af(4712.97TL) dekar, Average saffron yield was 4852,85 gr/da, average selling price was 158,21 Af(15.82TL) gr and gross production value was 763514,28 Af(76351.42TL)dekar. In the study, SWOT analysis of saffron producers' saffron production was also carried out. One of the strengths of saffron is that it is an expensive herb and can be sold quickly. Among the problems encountered in saffron marketing and sales activities, insufficient government support comes to the fore.
