Özet (EN)

The pre and postcolonial periods had a great impact on the history and the culture of the societies. Postcolonialism refers to the order that emerged after colonialism. Postcolonialism as an academic field of study is a critical way of thinking that analyzes the cultural history of colonialism and its legacies today. Postcolonialism, which is also considered as a postcolonial theory, is an approach that criticizes and questions colonialism politically, literally, historically, and culturally. Postcolonial literature emerged as a result of the postcolonial trends. It was created by the authors from countries with a colonial experience, and who criticized the colonial discourse and its legacy. Postcolonial novelists focus on the consequences of the colonization of the nation or country as well as the identity and cultural conflicts that arose during that time. African writers used postcolonial literature as a resistance and response to colonial discourse and the Western hegemony. Postcolonial African literature deals with power inequalities created by the hegemony, resulting from conflicting concepts such as black and white, and the colonies and the colonialists, and focuses on eliminating these borders. In this respect, postcolonial literature is the voice of the cultures and histories of African peoples, who have been exposed to colonialism. One of the most important postcolonial works of African and Arabic literature is Tayeb Sâlih's novel, Season of Migration to the North. Strikingly demonstrating the effects and consequences of colonialism on Sudan, this novel successfully reflected the relationship between society, literature and culture. In this thesis, the effect of colonial heritage on literature will be examined by examining the novel and characters of the Season of Migration to the North. At the same time, in the light of the identity analysis of the symbolic characters in the novel, the effect of colonialism on Africa and Sudanese society will be dealt.
