Evaluation of the effect of mouthwashes on the color change and solubility of composite resins

Abstract (EN)

Aim: The aim of this study is to compare the color change and solubility effects of current mouthwashes on composite resins. Materials and Metods: In our study, three different composite resins (Filtek Ultimate, Estelite Sigma Quick, Filtek Z250) of nanofil, nanohybrid and microhybrid type were used. A total of 120 samples were prepared, 40 of which were from each composite material. Composite resins were placed in 10 mm x 2 mm plastic molds in the form of a round disc, and polymerization was achieved with an LED light device. The prepared samples were kept in distilled water after finishing-polishing with a polishing disc and polishing rubber. Initial color measurements for color stability were made using VITA Easyshade® V (VITA, Germany). For the solubility measurement, after weighing the dry weights of the samples, the diameter and thickness were measured with a caliper and recorded. Then, samples from each group were dipped in three different mouthwashes (Chloroben, Listerine Advanced White, Colgate Plax) for 2 minutes, 2 times a day for 14 days. After 14 days, color and weight measurements of all samples were repeated. Kruskal Wallis and Mann Whitney U tests were used as statistical methods. Results: Significant color change was detected in all samples as a result of color measurements (p<0,05). While a significant difference was detected between the solution groups in terms of color change, the lowest amount of color change was seen in Colgate Plax solution. As a result of the comparison between the composite groups, Filtek Ultimate was determined as the composite group with the least color change. As a result of solubility measurements, positive solubility value was recorded in all samples. Although there was no significant difference in solubility between the composite groups, higher solubility was detected in Chloroben, Listerine Advanced White and Colgate Plax mouthwashes compared to the control group. Conclusion: In all composite groups which are evaluated as a result of our study, color change and solubility above the acceptable level were detected in mouthwashes at varying amounts depending on the material after soaking.
