A study on women and women's education in the novels of Ahmet Hamdi Tanpınar

Ahmet Hamdi Tanpınar is one of the important writer and poet of our last century. Importance of his literature is caused not only by his opuses but also by his studies. In addition to permanent effects of Ahmet Hamdi Tanpınar's poems, novels, essays and histories on writers after him, he also came to the front by his articles about literature and literature history writings. We started our study from Ahmet Hamdi Tanpınar's novels, then we analyze his other works. In addition to observ able imaginative creativeness and lyrical discourse in his novels, it's possible to observe social changes. Ahmet Hamdi uses 'Woman' as a concept while mentioning this topics. Because while 'Woman' is existing with her personality, she is the source of image ryandanalogy; but while mentioning by her social existence, she is the fundamental part of her period's social life. Woman characters in the Ahmet Hamdi Tanpınar's novels are coming to the front by their functions. Woman characters which are the modifiers of the main man character's life, are more analyzed in more detail. These are the norm characters of the creation. These women control the progress of happening in the novel. Ahmet Hamdi Tanpınar, narrates these women from man's point of view. But the character which is narrated by narrator, become fabulous in the point of main man character's view.Some of the woman characters comes to the front with just one explicit characteristic. These women have less effect on the story then the others. These women are used for creating the "social environment". More than existing on their own, Ahmet Hamdi Tanpınar's women characters are narrated telescopically with the elements related to culture, nature and art. These women who generally have an intellectual knowledge are holder of the culture rather than a regular education system put forward with all its aspects. They are not well informed, they are wise. Ahmet Hamdi Tanpınar brings light to the existence process of both individuals and societies by means of women characters. It is possible to trace the function of woman, alteration process in erasand its place in the transmission of culture by his novels.
