The mediating role of psychological capital in the relationship between family and academician support and anxiety of finding job: A study on the students of the Civil Aviation Management Program

The family are in provides to people with the necessary care and support by standing by the individuals in difficult processes from the moment people are born. Academic support is one of the sources of support that is particularly effective in the lives of university-age youth. With the support of their academicians, students can reduce their anxiety by directing their careers. The concept of psychological capital, which is the positive development state of individuals, also appears as a concept that increases the support of students' family and academicians. Considering that today's university-age youth have an intense concern about finding a job, both family support, academic support, and psychological capital are in a position to help students. The things to be done for the sake of reducing the anxiety of university students in finding a job, the importance of family and academician support at this point, the place and importance of psychological capital in this relationship are among the issues emphasized in the study. The field of application of the research consists of 238 students studying in the civil aviation management program in the city of Burdur. In the study, the family support scale developed by Şeker and Kaya in 2018 to measure family support and the higher education student mentoring scale developed by Gök and Aydın in 2017 were used to measure academician support. The scale developed by Demir and Kartal in 2016 was used to measure anxiety of finding a job. In order to measure the psychological capital of the students, the psychological capital scale adapted to Turkish by Çetin and Basım in 2012 was used. According to the results of the research, it was determined that there was no significant relationship between family support and anxiety of finding a job, and there was a significant and negative relationship between academic support and anxiety of finding a job. In addition, it was concluded that there is a significant relationship between psychological capital and anxiety of finding a job. Finally, in the study, it was examined whether psychological capital had an intermediary role in the relationship between family and academician support and anxiety of finding a job. The mediating role of psychological capital in the relationship between family support and anxiety of finding a job could not be looked at because the necessary conditions were not met. Considering the mediation role of psychological capital in the relationship between academician support and anxiety of finding a job, it is concluded that the mediating role is not significant.
