Abstract (EN)

Aim: The individual's belief in self or own judgment to successfully perform a certain performance is called self-efficacy. Belief in self-efficacy is an important determinant of academic success in school life for the learner, as well as a skill that will use throughout life out of school.İn addition, quality sleep is indispensable for healthy life.Poor quality sleep is associated with many diseases such as depression, anxiety, diabetes, obesity and hypertension. The number of individuals who have a habit of smoking in the society is quite high. The main aim of our study is to determine whether there is any relationship between individuals' smoking status, self-efficacy perception and sleep quality. Materials and Methods: Our study is cross-sectional descriptive and the population of the study consists of patients who applied to Erzincan Mengücek Gazi Training and Research Hospital Family Medicine Polyclinic between June 2023 and August 2023. Individuals aged 18 and over, voluntarily, who speak Turkish, and who do not have communication problems were included in the study. A 20-question demographic data questionnaire prepared by scanning the literature was applied to the participants who accepted to participate in the study and met the inclusion criteria. The "Fagerstrom Nicotine Addiction Test", the validity and reliability of which was performed in Turkish by Uysal and his friends, was applied in our country. The "Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI)',the validity and reliability of which was performed in Turkish by Ağargün and his friends, was applied in our country. Again, the 'General Self-Efficacy Scale',the validity and reliability of which was performed in Turkish by Yildirim and his friends, was applied in our country. It is planned to interview a total of 400 people, including a total of 20 people for each question included in the demographic data form. İt is planned to interview 440 people taking into account the data loss of 10%. A verbal and written informed voluntary consent form was taken from all participants. The principles of the Helsinki declaration were followed at every stage of the study. Results: The average PSQI score of the participants was 11.74 (min=6, max=21), and the mean score of the General Self-Efficacy Scale was 63.9 (min=37, max=85) out of a maximum of 85 points. The mean Fagerstrom score of the smokers was 3.72 (min=0, max=10). The PSQI scores of the smokers were significantly higher than the non-smokers, indicating worse sleep quality (p <0.001). Although the self-efficacy scores of smokers were higher than those of non-smokers, no significant relationship was observed between them (p=0.431). Conclusion: As a result of this study, it was seen that smoking affects sleep quality negatively, but it does not significantly affect self-efficacy perception.
