The effect of communication within the family on high school students? drug addiction ( Case of Elazığ city )

One of the most important problems of Turkey where there is a lot of young population is adolescents? drug addiction. Researches have pointed out that drug use is seen even at primary school students. The most basic factors for young people to start using drugs are their family problems, physical violence and psychological problems.The universe of the survey, the 2008-2009 academic year in the central district in the province of Elazig ''37'' secondary school studying at the 13,565 men, 10,922 girl to have constituted a total of 24,487 students. Of the survey sample; Elazig Center Public High School, Vocational and Technical high schools, Anatolian high school, Science high schools and Private / pay for school groups the chance (random) method selected by 500 students (2%) constituted.In this study, how family communication effected drug usage of secondary school students in the center of Elazığ has been researched. Communication of family members and lack of communication in the family, which are the basic causes of early age drug use, has been tried to unfold in all ways by the researcher.A likert type of survey was applied as a data collection tool in order to find whether or not there is a relation between demographic structure of the family, its socio-cultural features and communication of the family members and drug addiction of adolescents. Data was analyzed by using SPSS 15,0 statistical analysis programme. In light of the results and data, it was obtained information about family structure of addicted and non-addicted people, and it was tried to be revealed that drug addiction is in parallel with the communication of family members.In this research, entourage and social factors have not been asserted, but family concept and communication of the family members, which are keystones of community, have been considered as a primary fact. In conclusion of this research, problems and violence in between family members have pushed youngsters to depression and confusion since their early ages. Besides, this research shows strong and healthy relationship models which keep our children away from drug addiction.Key Words: Drug Addiction, Communication, Family, Adolescent,Communication of Family Members
