Management problems in family businesses: Konya example

In general, when the businesses in the world and in our country are analyzed, it is understood that the share of family businesses is higher than other businesses. We can briefly define family businesses as social structures that include the concepts of family, ownership and business. Today, while family businesses have a larger share than other businesses; it has been observed that their continuity is short in terms of their life course. One of the most important reasons for this situation is the problems arising from management functions. Different management functions have been highlighted in different studies; in this study, besides all management functions, generational conflict and institutionalization, which are important problems related to the sustainability of businesses, have been emphasized. Family businesses contribute to the economy in different ways according to countries. In the literature, there are many studies on family businesses that shed light on many problems such as institutionalization, financial orientation and productivity increase. In this study, it is aimed to examine management problems in family businesses. An empirical research was conducted in family businesses in Konya Industrial Zone. In the research, a questionnaire prepared with a 5-point Likert scale was preferred. 411 people were interviewed face-to-face and the data collected by questionnaire method were analyzed using SPSS AMOS 22 program. In the light of the findings obtained from the analysis, it was determined that there are many management problems in family businesses and that these problems are related to management functions.
