Abstract (EN)
The Impact of Home-Based Exercise Programs on Fall Risk, Quality of Life, Functional Wellness, and Physical Fitness in Elder Adults Aged 60 and Over. This study investigates the effects of a structured home-based exercise program on fall risk, quality of life, functional wellness, balance, and physical fitness in elder adults. The primary objective is to determine whether regular physical activity performed at home can contribute to improved functional health and reduced fall susceptibility among individuals aged 60 and above. Designed as a randomized controlled trial, the study included both an experimental and a control group, with pre-test and post-test measurements. The sample consisted of 80 volunteers enrolled in Tazelenme University at Akdeniz University, with 40 participants in each group. The experimental group engaged in an 8-week exercise intervention, performed three times per week for one hour persession. The program focused on muscle strengthening, balance enhancement, and fall prevention. The control group did not receive any intervention during this period. Data collection involved the administration of standardized assessment tools, including the Quality of Life Scale for Elder Adults, Berg Balance Scale, Physical Activity Scale, One-Leg Standing Balance Tests (with eyes open and closed), Two-Step Test, Chair Sit-and-Reach Test, and Chair Stand Test. Statistical analyses revealed significant improvements in the experimental group in terms of quality of life, balance, and physical fitness, along with a marked reduction in fall risk. No significant changes were observed in the control group. These findings indicate that structured home exercise programs are effective in enhancing physical functioning, supporting functional independence, and promoting active aging in elder populations.
