Determination of the incidence and types of coronary artery anomalies in coronary angiographies observed at Akdeniz University Faculty of Medicine Cardiology department

Abstract (EN)

Objective: With the widespread use of coronary angiography, coronary artery anomalies are detected more. Coronary artery anomalies, the second biggest cause of sudden cardiac deaths, draw attention. In our study, we aimed to determine the frequency of coronary artery anomalies according to their types, and the relationship of anomaly types with gender and age. Method: In our study, the coronary artery anomalies and its frequency were determined by retrospectively evaluating the 14022 coronary angiography reports made between the dates of 1.1.2014 and 1.11.2018 at Akdeniz University Faculty of Medicine Cardiology Department. The systematic anatomical classification method created by Angelini and Khatami was used to classify patients with coronary artery anomalies. The percentage of each type of coronary artery anomaly in the coronary artery anomalies, its incidence, the mean age of the patients, and the female / male ratio were determined. Results: Due to patients with more than one coronary angiography report, evaluations were made on 12214 different patients. 564 coronary anomalies were detected. The incidence, which was determined as 4.62, is 2.64 when evaluated without myocardial bridge cases. Group A anomalies were 24.82%, Group B anomalies were 68.79%, Group C anomalies were 4.96%, Group D anomalies were 1.41%. The most common anomaly types in our study are as follows; myocardial bridge is 42.73%, bifid R. interventricularis anterior (LAD) 19.86%, A. Coronaria sinistra (LMCA) absence is 16.31%. Conclusion: Detection of coronary artery anomalies is rare since it mostly does not show symptoms. We think that enriching the literature with detailed information about these anomalies, which may cause sudden cardiac deaths, ischemia and a decrease in quality of life, and considering this information may be important in the clinical evaluation phase.
