Özet (EN)
Acute diarrhea in children is one of the most common causes of mortality and morbidity, as well as in both developed and developing countries, is an important health problem in our country. Acute diarrhea is the most common disease in children after respiratory tract infection. In this retrospective study, we aimed to evaluate the age, sex, laboratory results, the season during hospitalization, hospitalization duration and treatments in all patients who were hospitalized with acute gastroenteritis (AGE ) in Dicle Univesity Faculty of Medicine Department of Pediatrics, between the years of 2010-2015. One hundred and forty patients were included in the study, of which 55(39,3%) were female and 85(60,7%) were male. In the age group we investigated 18 patients (12,9%) between 0-2 years old, 80 patients (57,1%) between 2-5 years old and 42 patients (30%) aged over 5 years old. Most of the patients were admitted in autumn (40,7%). The incidence of rotavirus was detected with a percent of 15. Eighty percent of the patients with rotavirus were admitted in the autumn-winter season. At 27(19,3%) patients an additional disease with AGE and 10(7,1%) of the patients was found to be secondary to another disease. At 72% of patients viral agents, at 24% parasitologic and at 4% bacterial agents were determined. The patients were evaluated according to duration of hospitalization; 11,4% of the patients totreatment at the hospital less than 3 days, 70,7% have between 3-7 days and 17,9% longer than 7 days. Before applying to our hospital, 56,4% of patients have received treatment for diarrhea from another health care provider and 43,6% of patients hadn't receive any treatment. Of which 140 patients, 27(19,3%) patients were given the probiotic, 42(30%) patients were given antibiotics, , 42(30%) patients were given antibiotics + probiotics while 29(20,7%) patients didn't take any treatment other than fluid and electrolyte replacement. The days of hospitalization was found that treatment with probiotics shortened to 22,4 hours. In conclusion, it was understood that viral agents are more frequent cause of AGE in our region during childhood and this is followed by respectively parasitologic and bacterial agents. The most important purpose in the treatment of diarrhea is to support of liquid electrolyte balance. Knowing the distribution of diarrhea agents will provide early diagnosisand treatment and also ıt will reduce to unnecessary using of antibiotics. The use of probiotics shorten the duration of diarrhea was observed to be significantly beneficial. KEYWORDS: childhood, gastroenteritis, rotavirus, probiotics
