Abstract (EN)
ABSTRACT SERUM VASPIN AND VISFATIN LEVELS IN ACUTE ISCHEMIC STROKECerebrovascular event is a clinical status characterized with the symptoms and findings of focal cerebral function loss associated with vascular reasons. Despite the improvements in stroke treatment and prophylaxis, stroke-related deaths are stil the third cause of deaths in many countries. Among the risk factors of stroke, there are irreversible factors such as age, gender, race and family history as well as reversible ones such as hypertension, diabetes mellitus, heart diseases, hyperlipidemia and obesity. Atherosclerosis is in the forefront of stroke pathogenesis. Inflammation plays a significant role in atherogenesis and atherosclerosis development. Visfatin and vaspin are recently found adipokin which has a relationship with obesity and diabetes and shows a proinflammatory effect. In this study, investigation of the relationships between visfatin, vaspin and stroke, and other risk factors of stroke was aimed.Twentyeight male and 22 female (50 patients in total) with stroke and 25male and 25 female (50 subjects in total) healty subjects were included in the study.Relationship between visfatin, vaspin and lipid parameters, sex, grade of carotid and vertebral artery stenosis was assessed. During the acute period in patients group (the first 48 hours) the serum visfatin and vaspin levels were measured. Also control group serum visfatin and vaspin levels were measured.Visfatin levels were higher in patient group (5,18±9,16 ng/mL) than control group (1,97±0,96ng/mL) (p<0.05). Vaspin levels were higher in patient group (164,73±153,76 ng/mL) than control group (116,21±34,60 ng/mL) (p<0.05).It is assumed that visfatin and vaspin has other effects besides proinflammatory ones because of the fact that visfatin and vaspin levels increase in cerebrovascular events, especially in acute periods. Moreover, in our opinion further and more comprehensive studies should be performed to mention positive effects of visfatin and vaspin.Key Words: Vaspin, Visfatin, Stroke
