Abstract (EN)

In the present study, it was aimed to investigate the preventive effects of aminoguanidine (AG) against unilateral ureteral obstruction induced renal damage in rats. The fifty eight wistar albino rats were randomly divided into five groups including; sham group underwent laparotomy without any obstruction (G1), sham + AG group underwent laparotomy without any obstruction and followed 100 mg/kg aminoguanidine was given the animals for 14 days intraperitonally (G2), after the laparotmoy the left ureter was sutured and then cut in obstruction group (G3), in the AG group; the left ureter was sutured and cut, then followed 100 mg/kg aminoguanidine was given the animals for 14 days intraperitonally (G4) and after the uretheral obstruction, just the saline was given in the last group (G5). On the 14th days with first application all animals were sacrified after the bilateral nephrectomy and tissue and blood samples were taken. In the histopathological findings; tübülar changes, pelvicalyceal dilation and inflammation is decreased in G4 as compared to the other groups and renal failure was decreased. Necrosis was not determined. AG administration was caused a significant increase in GSH and TAS levels and a significant decrease in the MDA and OSI values in G4 compared to G3. There were no significant differences among the G1, G2, G3 and G4 for Albumin and creatine levels, while serum level of BUN decreased in the G4 when compared with G3. Creatine levels decreased in the G5 as compared G4. In this context, it was determined that AG administration may be clinically useful in terms of oxidative damage in kidney tissue. However, AG administration after renal damage did not clinically applicable in today. İn order to get into the clinical use of AG, larger series ana multicenter studies are needed in this regard.
