It was stated that about 2000 types of mushrooms, discovered around the world, particularly 50 pieces of them may be toxic to humans. In our country, along with death cases taking place every year because of mushroom poisoning, it is reported that 1.5-3.4% of all poisings which apply to health center are composed of mushroom poising. About 90% of mushroom poisoning causes Amanita phalloides species in our country. Alpha-amanitin, is bicyclic octapeptide structure and responsible for the toxicity of the main structure. At the treatment of A.phalloides type of mushroom poisoning, crystalline penicillin, corticosteroids and tiocticacid have been used and especially in recent years, popularly referred to as the thorn of the Virgin Mary, the active component of the plant Silybum marianum for protection and life-saving liver of silibinin property is demonstrated in studies. In our study, it has been shown with studies that antioxidant properties and its positively impact on the liver, it has aimed to investigate Cynara scolymus (artichoke) plant's possible effects of this poisoning. Four groups was used each of which contains seven rats As a result of the study, on the deteriorated antioxidant parameters due to the poisoning of alpha amanitin has been seen significant improving with application artichoke extract.
