Abstract (EN)

The aim of of this study was to examine the relationship between perceived parental attitudes, self-perception with alcohol-substance use. We also aimed to examine the relationship between some sociodemographic characteristics and alcohol-substance use. A total of 447 participants, 314 female and 133 male, aged between 18 and 30, took part in the study. Informed Consent Form, Demographic Information Form, Abbreviated Perceived Parental Attitudes Scale, Social Comparison Scale, and Michigan Alcoholism Substance Screening Test were administered to the participants, respectively. The obtained data were analyzed using Pearson Correlation Analysis, Independent sample t-test, One-Way Analysis of Variance (ANOVA), and Regression analysis. According to the findings obtained as a result of the research, while there was no statistically significant relationship between perceived parental attitudes and alcohol and substance use, and between self-perception and alcohol and substance use, a statistically significant relationship was observed between self-perception and perceived parental attitudes. In this model, which was found to be significant, the sub-dimensions of maternal emotional warmth, paternal emotional warmth, and maternal overprorection, which are parental attitudes, were seen as predictive parameters. There was a positive correlation between the maternal emotional warmth, paternal emotional warmth and self-perception scores and a negative correlation between maternal overprotection and self-perception scores. When the use of alcohol and substance was examined according to the gender, age, education and marital status of the participants, it was seen that alcohol and substance use differed significantly according to gender and edutacional status, but did not differ according to marital status. In terms of gender, while the MATT scale average scores of men were higher than that of women, it was seen that the MATT scale average scores of high school graduates were higher than those university and master/doctorate graduates in the educational status variable. In addition, that there was no statistically significant relationship between age variable and alcohol substance use. The results obtained from the current study were discussed within the framework of the literature.
