Ali Fuad Basgil?s attitude and criticism towards materialism

Our study, ?Ali Fuad Basgil?s Attitude and Criticism Towards Materialism? aims to research spiritualist attitude that Ali Fuad Basgil assumed towards materialisic movements that emerged in Turkey before the foundation of Turkish Republic and survived through the post- republic period preserving their influence. Our study consists of an introduction part and three other parts. In the introduction part after some information about materialism and its coming to Turkey; the subject, significance, method, extend and limitations of the research are stated. In the first part answers for the questions `What is materialism?? `What are its varieties?? are sougth and the historical development of materialism is emphasised. In the second part Ali Fuad Basgil?s approach to materialism and materialistic ideas and his classification of these ideas are discussed. In addition, critism of materialistic ideas are examined and the problems arising from these ideas and methods that Ali Fuad Basgil offers as a solution of these problems are examined in this part. In the third part, Ali Fuad Basgil?s spiritualist attitude in opposition to materialistic ideas is presented. In this context, Basgil?s perception of spirit and spiritualism, religion, ethics, spiritualistic democracy and nationalism is also examined in this part. In the conclusion part a general evaluation and conclusions are given.
