Investigation of the relationship of alcohol and substance use with self-efficiency and social anxiety disorder

The main aim of this study is to examine the relationship between alcohol and substance use and self-efficacy and social anxiety disorder in individuals aged 18-64. Another purpose of this study is to determine whether the levels of self-efficacy and social anxiety disorder in individuals who use alcohol and substances differ according to various demographic variables (gender, age, marital status, education level, whether they work or not, whether they use alcohol and substances). 422 people from different provinces of Turkey online participated in the research. In the study, Socio-Demographic Information Form the Risk Screening Scale for Alcohol Use, Risk Screening Scale for Substance Use, General Self-Efficacy Scale and Social Anxiety Disorder Scale were applied to the participants. As a result of the research, there is no significant relationship between alcohol use and self-efficacy, anxiety, avoidance, and social anxiety. There is a negative significant relationship between substance use and self-efficacy, anxiety, avoidance, and social anxiety. It was seen that the self-efficacy of men was significantly higher than that of women. It was observed that women's anxiety, avoidance and social anxiety were significantly higher than men's were. It was concluded that men's alcohol and substance use were significantly higher than women's were. It was observed that the anxiety of single people was significantly higher than that of married people. It was observed that alcohol and substance use of singles was significantly higher than that of married people. It has been determined that the self-efficacy of those with a master's degree is significantly higher than those with a bachelor's degree is. It was determined that the anxiety, avoidance and social anxiety of primary and secondary school graduates were significantly higher. It was determined that the alcohol and substance use of graduates and undergraduates was significantly higher than those of primary and secondary education graduates was. It was observed that the self-efficacy of the employees was significantly higher than the ones who did not work. It was concluded that the anxiety, avoidance, and social anxiety of the unemployed were significantly higher than those of the workers were. It was observed that the alcohol use of the employees was significantly higher than the non-workers. It was observed that the self-efficacy of people who stated that they did not use substances was significantly higher than those who stated that they used drugs. It was observed that the anxiety, avoidance and social anxieties of those who stated that they did not use substances were significantly higher than those who stated that they used substances. It was concluded that the alcohol and substance use of people who stated that they used alcohol and drugs was significantly higher than those who stated that they did not use drugs. While there was no significant correlation between alcohol use and self-efficacy, it was determined that there was a negative significant correlation between substance use and self-efficacy. It was determined that there was no significant correlation between alcohol use and anxiety, avoidance and social anxiety. It was determined that 188 people (44.5%) were at high risk for alcohol use, and 52 people (12.3%) were at high risk for substance use. In line with the data obtained from the research, the levels of self-efficacy, anxiety, avoidance, social anxiety (total), alcohol and substance use show significant differences according to the gender and education level variable. Anxiety, alcohol and substance use levels show a significant difference according to marital status variable, while self-efficacy, avoidance and social anxiety (total) levels do not show a significant difference. According to the variable of working status, the level of substance use shows a significant difference, while the levels of self-efficacy, anxiety, avoidance, social anxiety (total) and alcohol use do not show a significant difference. The level of alcohol use shows a significant difference according to the variable of alcohol use status, while the levels of self-efficacy, anxiety, avoidance, social anxiety (total) and substance use do not show a significant difference. According to the variable of substance use status, alcohol use status shows a significant difference, while self-efficacy, anxiety, avoidance, social anxiety (total) and substance use status levels do not show a significant difference.
