Özet (EN)

The aim of this study is to compare the effects of CS4 Sistem and Forsus FRD EZ2 (Forsus) fixed functional appliances by using cephalometric analysis in patients with mandibular retrognathia. Lateral Cephalometric radiographs of 28 patients who had the indication of mandibular retrognathia and had been treated with CS4 Sistem and Forsus appliance in the archives of Gaziantep University Orthodontics Department were included in this study. Fixed appliances were kept activated in all cases until 1st molars came to class I relationship and hold in place for 5,8±1 months (CS4 Sistem) and 6,2 ±1 months (Forsus). Lateral cephalometric radiographs were taken before installing the appliance (T1) and just after removal of the CS4 Sistem and Forsus groups (T2). Lateral cephalometric radiographs of 14 patients treated with Forsus (mean age 16,57 ± 0,84) and 15 patients (mean age 16,79 ± 1,10) treated with CS4 Sistem appliance were evaluated using Dolphin Imaging and Enlil programs. Subsequently, the data was evaluated with paired t-test, independent samples t-test in 95% confidence interval. As a result, CS4 Sistem and Forsus appliances were found to be effective in overjet, overbite and molar relationship correction in patients with mandibular retrognathia, and the obtained effect was more dentoalveolar and the skeletal effect was minimal. At the end of the treatment, retrusion at the upper incisor teeth and protrusion at the lower incisor teeth were observed. The CS4 Sistem appliance was found to cause more increase in IMPA and more decrease U1/SN than Forsus appliance.
