Effects of pomegranate juice on some elements of rat liver, kidney and brain tissues exposed to aluminum.

In this thesis study, the protective effect of pomegranate (Punica Granatum L.) juice was investigated against oxidative stress induced by AlCl3 in rats. In the study; Four groups were formed as Control (K), Pomegranate Juice (NS), Aluminum (Al) and Pomegranate Juice + Aluminum (NS+Al). AlCl3 was administered intraperitoneally at 8.3 mg/kg and pomegranate juice was administered by oral gavage at 4 ml/kg every other day for 30 days. The levels of some trace elements in liver, kidney and brain tissues of rats were determined using High Resolution Continuous Beam Flame Atomic Absorption Spectrometer (HR CS-FAAS). When the trace element levels of the liver tissue were examined, it was observed that the Ca and Al levels of the Al group increased compared to the K group, while the Mn level decreased. The Mn and Al levels of the Al+NS group decreased compared to the Al group, while the Ca level increased. When the kidney tissue trace element levels were examined, an increase was observed in the Al group Cu, Ca, Mg and Al levels compared to the K group. It was determined that the Cu, Ca and Al levels of the Al+NS group were significantly decreased compared to the Al group. When brain tissue trace element levels were examined, it was observed that the Fe, Ca and Al levels of the Al group increased compared to the K group, while the Mn level decreased. Fe, Ca and Al levels in the Al+NS group were found to be decreased compared to the Al group. As a result, it has been shown that the application of pomegranate juice in AlCl3 exposure may have protective effects against toxicity in rat tissues
