Özet (EN)

In the 19th century, missionary activities were carried out under the name of religious propaganda and the missionaries began to spread rapidly in the Ottoman geography. The most important of these is the American Board of Directors, which was established in Boston in 1810. The schools they have opened have enabled them to reach the students and their parents, and it has been effective in a short time. Missionaries acting on minorities have found the rescript of Gülhane and edict of reform with a more relaxed atmosphere. Especially, the atmosphere of extreme freedom created by the Second Constitutionalist period, was a time when the missonaries in the Ottoman landscape took advantage of the privileges provided by the capitulations and opened new schools. In thes period, Robert College became a very influential institution in the establishment of the Bulgarian State. Other American missionary schools established in the region where the Armenians lived led to the growth of the Armenian Question. Missionary schools continued their presence in the transition period from the armistice to the republic. Missionary schools have been tried to be taken under supervision together with the adoption of the law on unification of education. ÖNSÖZ
