The investigation of anatolian high school students' foreign language anxi̇ety

The aim of this study is to investigate Anatolian high school students' foreign language anxiety levels in terms of some variables. The study which is within the scope of quantitative research, was carried out with the participation of 858 students from eight Anatolian high schools in Diyarbakır province and its counties in 2015-2016 academic year. Data were collected through Foreign Language Classroom Anxiety Scale, which consists of 32 items and was developed by Horwitz, Horwitz and Cope (1986). T-test and ANOVA test techniques were used to analyze the data. The findings revealed that students' foreign language anxiety levels showed a significant difference with their grade, family's income, using internet and the frequency of studying foreign language classes. It was also determined that students were most anxious while speaking target language of all foreign language skills; furthermore, more studies are required in this field. According to the results it can be thought to be crucial to integrate foreign language curriculums with the internet in a way to support classes' objectives and outcomes and to provide proper feedback to decrease students'speaking anxiety levels.
