Andriace Granarium and socio-economic effects

The aim of this thesis is to answer the questions about the "Imperial Grain Depots", which were a reflection of the grain trade and also constituted the expansion policy of the Roman Empire. While examining whether the Horreas were only used as "grain depots", the reasons why the two (2) Horreas in the Province of Asia Minor were different from the others, and how the results have developed in the Hadrian Period and afterwards in the Andriake Port, it will also allow the architectural reflections and development to be evaluated. The scope of this thesis is to evaluate the architectural description of the Horrea Hadriani/Granarium building in Andriake, the harbor of Myra, by comparing it with similar examples of Horrea buildings in other imperial harbors. Since the topics such as Grain trade in the Roman Empire and Roman Imperial Economy, Ancient Sea Trade are very wide-ranging, it was thought with my thesis advisor Prof. Dr. Nevzat Çevik that it would be appropriate to make a period limitation for Horrea Hadriani and Andriake Port, which will be discussed in this thesis, and the survey drawings of Horrea Hadriani were studied. As a result of the examinations carried out in the Agora / Plakoma and Horrea Hadriani with Süleyman Bulut, the interior fittings were determined on the survey and photographs were taken in relation to other usage functions, and the photographs required for the thesis were accessed through the Myra-Andriake Excavation Archive. The archaeological finds and small finds recovered during the archaeological excavations in 2009 were recorded and archived in accordance with the inventory / survey system. The method applied within the scope of this thesis is to examine the survey drawings of Horrea Hadriani, which is located in Andriake, the harbor of Myra, and which continues its activities as the Museum of Lycian Civilizations today, before the restoration in the first stage. It was supported by the examination of the excavations and researches carried out in the vicinity of the building and the Plans / Surveys obtained from the Conservation Board of Cultural and Natural Heritage of the Republic of Turkey. This data obtained is to create a sub-ground to examine the possible internal reinforcements of the building. While these studies were carried out, field survey, photography and documentation studies were also carried out simultaneously. Library studies and literature searches, access to the library catalogs of other universities that are open to access on the internet, examinations, photographs and maps were carried out to evaluate the results and a general evaluation research study was carried out.
