SUMMARYMASTERS THESISDIRGES COMPILED IN ANDIRIN (KAHRAMAN MARAŞ)(EXAMINATION- TEXT)MEHMET TEM ZUNIVERSITY OF FIRATTHE INSTITUTE OF SOCIAL SCIENCEAND POSTGRADUATE STUDY IN TURKISH PUPLIC LITERATURE2005, Page: XXVII + 739The most important elements that keep a nation alive forever are its cultural values.Andırın is one of our nice cities where our cultural values, especially dirges, are composedand used very actively, and where the tradition of singing dirges is continued in differentforms.In this study with which we aimed to keep our cultural values alive and transmit themto following generations, we tried to give information about Andırın and Andırın dirges.In the introduction, we tried to give information about the concept of dirge, mourningceremony and dirges, mourning ceremonies and dirges that have taken part in Turkish worldfrom past till today, general characteristics of dirges and the relationships between dirges andother literary forms. In the first chapter, we dealed with the studies on dirges. In the secondchapter, we examined study area, compiling methods of Andırın dirges, singing and writingforms and content of Andırın dirges. Finally in conclusion, we summarized all the findings. Inthe third chapter, we presented tge dirge texts that we compiled from both registered and oralsources. With this study, we tried to prevent Andırın dirges from being forgotten, and to findout the place of Andırın dirges in folklore.Key Words: Culture, folklore, dirges, Andırın dirges
