Abstract (EN)

This study aimed to investigate the effect of sudden or expected perceptions of those who lost their first-degree relatives due to death in the last three years to the mourning process. The sample of the study consisted of 150 people aged between 18 and 65 years living in Kocaeli. In order to determine the variables in the mourning process, "The Texas Revised Inventory of Grief", "The Two Track Model of Bereavement Questionnaire" and "Core Bereavement Items" were applied. The results showed that there was a significant difference in the mean scores of mourning process variables when those who lost their first-degree relatives suddenly and those who expectedly lost. There was a significant relationship between gender, cause of death and closeness of the deceased in sudden/unexpected or expected/sequential perceptions. In addition, bereaved person's sociodemographic attributes which are gender, age, marital status and religious attitudes; the suddenness of the loss, age of death and the state of vision while giving to the soil significantly explained the severity of mourning. The findings of the studies were discussed in the light of the literature; the importance of preparation for death in the expected losses is emphasized.
