Abstract (EN)

The aim of this study was to analyze levels of knowledge and attitudes of primary school teachers working in central districts of Ankara province about the concept of consumer, consumer rights, responsibilities, the laws protecting the consumers, consumer education and organization. A total of 200 primary school teachers were included in the study.Questionnaire method and attitude scale were used in the study.Data collected from the questionnaire was analyzed in SPSS program version 11.5. When there was a difference among average scores of the test, this difference was evaluated based on significance level f 0.05.According to the findings of the study, 31% of the teachers were male, 69% were female. It was found that there was a statistically significant difference between age groups and average scores the teachers received form ?Consumer Organization and Fundamental Rights? knowledge test. It was found that there was a difference between 21-30 age group and 41-50 age groups.Analysis of the responds of the teachers in attitude scale indicated that there was a statistically significant difference between the genders in terms of the following attitudes: making market survey before buying durable consumer goods; reading the information on the package of the product to be purchased; checking production and date of expiry of the product; reaching an agreement on asking ?Direct Sale License? by the direct-sale firm; getting a written consent containing information about goods and service in distance shopping; checking departure, turning date and hour before signing package tour contracts; in all kinds of subscription contracts, being aware of the right of the consumer about unilateral termination of the contract on condition that he/she declares his/her wish in writing.When the attitude scores the teachers received were analyzed according to age groups, it was found that there was a statistically significant difference between the age groups in terms of making a market survey before purchasing durable consumer goods. There was a difference between 31-40 and 51+ age group. When the terms and conditions committed by the seller and the terms and conditions set out in the contract were analyzed it was found that there was a statistically significant difference according to age groups. There was a difference between 31-40 and 51+ age group.There was no statistical difference between attitude scores of primary school teachers in terms of professional seniority and marital status.Key Words: Teacher, consumer, consumer education
